Raypak Heat Pumps: A Great Reason to Extend Pool Season!

Raypak Heat Pumps utilize modern technology to help make your pool water comfortable while remaining an affordable choice. Raypak takes this to heart as they have completely re-engineered key elements of their heat pumps to maximize efficiency and drive down energy bills.

How Does a Heat Pump Work?

A heat pump is an extremely efficient and economical machine. Raypak Heat Pumps are designed specifically to heat swimming pools and are similar in both design and operation to that of a residential air conditioner. A heat pump uses a compressor motor that operates in a refrigeration cycle to extract heat from ambient air and deliver it to the pool water that is circulating through it. Heat pumps have a lower BTU per hour heating capacity than gas or oil-powered heaters and for the same pool, will have to operate more hours per day to keep the pool at a desired setpoint. Heat pumps are designed to do this and despite these longer run times, will heat the pool at a lesser cost than heaters that use fossil fuels. Evaporation is the main cause of heat loss from a pool so it is a good idea to keep the pool covered when it’s not in use. Keeping it covered will reduce heat loss and save you money in the long run.

Keeping your pool water optimized and chemically balanced is not just important to your own health but also to the health and functioning of your equipment. We recommend testing your water regularly and using chemicals as is needed.

Raypak Digital Heat Pump 5450, 103K BTU, Titanium Heat Exchanger Features

- Exclusive DuraSteel™ Powder-Coated Cabinet

Rugged steel construction is exactly the same as most outdoor air conditioners. A steel jacket protects the evaporator coil from storm debris, hail, and harsh weather

- Quiet Operation

A three-blade swept wing fan helps bring more air over the coil and translates to greater efficiency while remaining whisper quiet. The base of the heat pump is also rust-proof and ultra sound deadening. This helps protect your pump and keep noise at an absolute minimum as well.

- Compressor

Raypak Heat Pumps utilize scroll compressors which are very quiet when compared to piston type compressors. These types of compressors wear in over time and result in higher efficiencies and less noise.

- Titanium Heat Exchanger

The titanium tube is spiral shaped and provides a waterway that is free from corrosion while standing up to pool water that has balancers, disinfectants, and other chemicals in it. The spiral tube helps reduce deposit build-up and increases efficiency by performing a “scoop-and-lift” action. The 103K BTU heat pump uses offset 2’ PVC union connections.

- Digital Controls

The Raypak 103K BTU heat pump can be set to have a different target temperature for both your pool and spa. The controls can also be handled through most two-wire and three-wire remote systems but can also retain control at the unit as well. Additional technology onboard alerts the homeowner or technician of any issues and provides informative error codes in case they were ever needed. Every Raypak Heat Pump can detect when it needs to take over for your solar energy system or turn on a gas system for extra heat. It automatically optimizes your cost savings.

How Do I Choose the Correctly Sized Heat Pump?

Selecting the correct heat pump has to do with the size of your pool and what your desired temperature ranges will be. Take a look at our additional blog here on how to accomplish this.
